Upshift/Downshift Switch

11/18/2015  · OBD II Fault code P0826 is defined as “Up and Down Switch Input Circuit” on vehicles with manually shift-able automatic transmissions. Code P0862 is set when the Powertrain Control Module detects a malfunction in the electrical circuit(s) of the upshift/downshift switch, which works in conjunction with the transmission range correlation circuit.

The upshift/downshift switch is used by the driver to control gears and shifting in an automatic transmission that has manual mode. When the powertrain control module (PCM) notes that the upshift/downshift switch circuit is producing an abnormal voltage or resistance signal, the P0827 trouble code will be detected.

Your vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) has recognized a problem in the electrical circuit of the upshift switch circuit. The upshift/downshift switch is located in the passenger compartment near your vehicle’s shifter. Please note that upshift/downshift switches are available only on vehicles with manual transmissions.

The upshift/downshift (paddle) shifter typically found on the steering wheel horn pad , close to the driver’s finger position. These sport shifters are usually found in high-performance cars. To ensure the gear selection is consistent with the upshift/downshift switch input signals, the PCM monitors the transmission range switch.
