Pieter Bruegel (also Brueghel) the Elder (Dutch: [?pit?r ?brø????] c. 1525-1530 – 9 September 1569) was the most significant artist of Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting, a painter and printmaker from Brabant, known for his landscapes and peasant scenes (so called genre painting) he was a pioneer in making both types of subject the focus in large paintings.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder was born around 1525-30 C.E. in or near Breda, Duchy of Brabant, Habsburg Netherlands. Because he entered the Antwerp painters’ guild in 1551, it is inferred that he was born between 1525 and 1530.
